A police officer in Invercargill was assaulted and knocked unconscious early this morning.
Two officers on patrol about 2.30am were assaulted by a man at the intersection of Dee and Don Streets.
The officer who was knocked unconscious was taken to hospital and released a few hours later.
A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated wounding and aggravated assault, police said.
He is due to appear in the district court tomorrow.
