The Wellington Regional Council will trial a bus route to Wellington Zoo after public pressure since the new network was set up.
When Metlink's new system was launched, the service running to Wellington Zoo was scrapped.
It will now run a six-month trial service leaving Wellington Station every hour, from 3 February.
The council's Barbara Donaldson said the trial route was the result of discussions with the zoo and residents.
Metlink had implemented changes to encourage travel to the zoo, including signage, online information and a zoo themed bus shelter in Newtown.
The 23Z service will run alongside the existing 23 and 23E services running through Newtown.
