A magnitude 4.8 quake has been felt throughout the lower North Island.
It had its epicentre 10 kilometres southwest of Dannevirke and struck at a depth of 25 kilometres, about 4.37am this morning.
The official GeoNet website shows more than 2700 people have reported feeling the early morning shake.

There have been no reports of damage.
