Today's frosty start is due to continue tomorrow with below-zero temperatures for many areas.
This morning's lows were at Lake Pukaki with -4.7C and Timaru Airport on -3.2C, MetService said.

Temperatures are expected to be chilly again overnight into early Wednesday, with many South Island centres below zero.
MetService is forecasting -3C in Timaru, Queenstown and Alexandra, and -2C in Blenheim and Ashburton, and -1C in Invercargill, Wanaka and Christchurch.
In the central North Island, Taumaranui and Taupo are due to fall to -2C overnight.
