A man who was missing in Mt Aspiring National Park amid thunderstorms, hail and gale force winds has been found.
Police earlier said they had just received a missing person's report, a couple of days after the man was due to return from staying in a hut in the park.
By mid-afternoon, police said the man was located safe and well in his car at about 1pm this afternoon, parked about half a kilometre from the hut.
Search and rescue teams were set to look in the Hopkins Valley area today, near Lake Ōhau in the Mackenzie Basin.
The Department of Conservation said the Hopkins Valley track could be used by mountainbikers or walkers, and was considered an advanced tramping track.
