The search for a missing kayaker Louis Solofua on Lake Ellesmere, south of Christchurch, is on hold today.
The 59-year-old Christchurch man didn't return to his family after a solo mission to check fishing nets on Saturday morning.
His kayak was found that afternoon.
But search crews from the police force, Garden City Helicopters, Surf Life Saving and Waimakariri-Ashley Coastguard couldn't find the man on Saturday, Sunday nor yesterday.
It's now being treated as a body recovery mission, and the police said they would monitor conditions on the lake and reassess their search plan today.
Search crews will resume looking for the man's body tomorrow and police intend to conduct an aerial search of the lake, supported by the North Canterbury Coastguard.
