A person is in a critical condition after a crash in northwest Auckland this afternoon.

Police said they were called to the single-vehicle crash on State Highway 16 near Waimauku about 1.20pm.
A helicopter took the sole occupant to hospital.
The highway was closed and diversions were expected to be in place for some time.
