A series of quakes has rattled Christchurch, with the largest a 4.4 tremor.
The quake hit at 7.37am and was centred 10km north-east of the city, at a depth of 8km.
More than 6600 people reported feeling the shake.
A light 3.6 tremor was recorded a few minutes earlier.
Overnight, a moderate 4.0 quake struck in the same area, at 2.21am.
A M4.3 quake, and a M3.6 foreshock caused moderate shaking in Christchurch this morning. We have received over 7000 felt reports. There was also light shaking in the area yesterday evening, and M4.0 at same spot overnight 2:21AM

One person said online the largest quake "was a doozy" and another said the tremors were as if someone was "shaking my bed ever so gently for 10 seconds or so."
