One person has died in a two-vehicle crash on SH3, near Hangatiki, in Waikato this afternoon.
Four other people have been seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 12.45pm.
The road is expected to remain closed for some hours while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.
There are diversions in place south of the roundabout at Mangarino Road, and at Kumeu Station Road.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
