Homicide investigators searching for Auckland teen Jayden Mamfredos-Nair are working with an international expert to find his body - and expect to make an arrest by Christmas.
The 19-year-old went missing from Birdwood Reserve in West Auckland's Rānui on 21 April.
He was last seen with two members of the Head Hunters gang.
On Thursday morning, Detective Inspector Callum McNeill said police were getting help from a body decomposition expert who had previously worked with the Australian Federal Police.
Police would today be focussing their search efforts in an area that has not be searched yet.
"As a result of information received from the public, the Operation Violin investigation team is now focussing on searching a new area," McNeill said.
"For operational reasons we are not able to specify exactly where police are searching today.
"We will endeavour to update the public as the investigation allows."
McNeill said police remained committed to finding Mamfredos-Nair and holding those responsible for his death to account.
"We are anticipating bringing this matter to a conclusion before Christmas."
Anyone with any information that may help police in the investigation are asked to call 105 and reference Operation Violin.
