A gang funeral being held north of Wellington today may cause traffic disruption, police warned earlier.

Kāpiti Mana area commander inspector Renée Perkins said a procession would travel through Waitangirua, Titahi Bay and Plimmerton to Whenua Tapu Cemetery in the middle of Wednesday.

"Police will be visible throughout with additional staff in the area, providing public reassurance and responding to any unlawful activity."

People should contact police if they saw anything concerning or illegal," she said.

On Wednesday afternoon, police said about 40 vehicles took part in the procession, and a further 30 or so went straight to the cemetery.

Just last month a Mongrel Mob tangi also caused traffic disruption, though no one was arrested.
