The death of a man whose body was found in rock pools is being treated as unexplained.
The man was found at Breaker Bay, Wellington, around 10.40am Saturday.
Police said inquiries were ongoing to determine what occurred.
Earlier, police asked for the public's help to identify the man, who was described as being in his 60s, white, of average height and build, clean-shaven, and with short grey-white hair.
However, on Saturday night, police said they had identified him.
"At this stage we are not in a position to name him, however would like to extend our thanks to the public for their help.
"Inquiries are continuing into the man's death, which will be referred to the coroner."
