A police officer in Central Otago had to hit the ground to avoid being hit by a speeding motorcyclist.
The rider had accelerated to at least 200km/h near Ranfurly on Saturday, after being clocked driving at more than 70 kilometres over the speed limit near Wedderburn.
Acting Southern District Commander Inspector Matt Scoles said the biker crashed as he tried to drive around a police car parked at an intersection soon afterwards.
The driver and an officer who ducked to avoid being hit both suffered minor injuries.
A 51-year-old is being charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop.
