One person has died and another is in a critical condition after a two-vehicle crash in Darfield, rural Canterbury.
Police responded to a crash on Old West Coast Road near Pitts Road in Selwyn around 11am, and found two people in critical condition.
One person died at the scene and another remained in hospital in a critical condition.
Two other people were injured in the crash.
The death took the unofficial holiday road toll to 11.
The Serious Crash Unit had conducted a scene examination and closed the road.
