Fire and Emergency says a scrub fire on the Coromandel Peninsula is contained and under control.
Firefighters battled strong winds and steep terrain to fight the fire on Black Jack Road in Kūaotunu after it broke out yesterday.
Incident controller Shane Bromley said crews have stood down for the evening after extinguishing hot spots to the east of the fire.
He said firefighters will be back in the morning to work on hot spots to the west of where the fire burned.
Helicopters will also operate from early tomorrow.
Black Jack Road is open overnight but will close again in the morning.
