Police officers in Nelson gathered on Wednesday afternoon to remember their colleague, Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming, ahead of her funeral on Thursday.
Fleming died after being struck by a vehicle while patrolling in Buxton Square in the early hours of New Years Day.
She had 38 years of frontline service and was the first policewoman to be killed in the line of duty in New Zealand.

Staff gathered outside the Nelson Central Police Station in Albion Square at 1pm on Wednesday to observe a minute's silence.
Police Commissioner Richard Chambers said the country's 15,000 police staff were invited to pause wherever they were to remember the "ultimate sacrifice" of one of their own.
Flowers and tributes to Fleming had been laid in front of the Nelson Central station, where the flag was flying at half mast.

The funeral, with full police honours, will be held at Nelson's Trafalgar Centre on Thursday and livestreamed on the police website.
The service will include a motorcade, honour guard, police piper and a flag presentation to Fleming's family.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is returning from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he has been to witness the signing of the UAE trade deal, in time for the funeral.
