A large vegetation fire in Western Bay of Plenty is now contained, but continues to burn along the railway line by Wainui South Road, Whakamarama.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand said it received multiple calls about the bush and scrub fire about 12.40pm on Thursday.
Incident commander Bill Pike said six fire trucks are dampening down hotspots.
Locals have shared online that Wainui South Road from State Highway 2 intersection is closed, with hoses across the road, but the highway remains open.
No evacuations were required.
Pike said people should stay away from the area.
