Police have reported a second fatal crash in one day in the small Waikato community of Ngāhinapōuri, southwest of Hamilton.

Emergency services were told of a single vehicle crash on Oregan Road, about 7:45pm on Sunday, police said in a statement.

One person died at the scene. A second person from the vehicle was seriously injured.

The road was closed Sunday night, while the Serious Crash Unit carried out a scene examination.

Earlier on Sunday, another single-vehicle collision nearby, left one person dead.

That crash happened about 8:55am on Kakaramea Road - State Highway 39, police said.

The person died at the scene after efforts to save them were unsuccessful. No one else was injured.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area on Sunday morning, and were warned to expect delays.
