Police have notified the coroner regarding a jetskier missing in the Cook Strait for a week.

The man vanished during an attempted crossing last Monday.

His jetski was found at Cook Rock, just north of the Marlborough Sounds later that day, but after hundreds of hours of searching by sea and air police said there had been no further sign of him.

Marlborough area prevention manager Senior Sergeant Peter Payne said while there had been no boats actively looking since Friday, the search was not suspended, and vessels in the area were continuing to keep an eye out.

The investigation remained active and the search would undergo a peer review conducted by an independent search coordinator who would make recommendations on the search to date and suggest any new areas of interest to look, he said.

Police had been in touch with the Coroner and were supporting the man's family, Payne said.
