Water has been restored to the Wellington suburb of Mount Cook following a "major water outage" on Monday afternoon.
Wellington Water said a large amount of water had drained out of the Bell Road Reservoir, which activated the automatic shut-off.
"Our team's been investigating the cause of this since then. The reservoir was turned back on and off again to assess the situation. The reservoir is now back online, and our team is working hard to identify the issue," it said in a statement.
"All boundary valves have been checked and are operating correctly. We suspect there is a burst drinking water pipe."
It encouraged residents who had previously been affected by the outage to conserve water where possible, and to report anything unusual that may indicate a service break to Wellington City Council.
