Viral footage shows group of youth allegedly kicking man outside Auckland mall

Footage has been posted online of a group of at least 10 youths kicking a man as he lay on the ground outside a West Auckland shopping mall.

The video posted on Facebook shows a number of young people allegedly beating a man in front of the West City shopping centre in Henderson.

Police said they were called to the scene on Railside Avenue at about 8pm on Friday 7 March to reports of a man assaulted by a group of youths after he approached them with a group of men while they smashed bottles.

They said the attack was witnessed by members of the public.

Officers spoke with the victim at the scene, who declined to make a statement or be treated further.

Police said they patrolled the area around West City and found five young people aged between 8 and 13, and one 19-year-old they believe were involved.

They said the young people were taken home due to their age, and the 19 year old was arrested on an unrelated matter.

An investigation into what happened was continuing.

West City shopping centre has been approached for comment.

A St John spokesperson said they were notified of the incident at 8.08pm but their assistance was not required.
