Fire and Emergency say a scrub fire that spread from a burning ute on State Highway Five - north of Te Pōhue - has been extinguished.
The road is closed after emergency services were called to the stretch between Te Pōhue Loop Road and Richmond Road shortly after 11am.
Just before 1pm a Fire and Emergency spokesperson said the vegetation fire was out.
The spokesperson said a rural unit, fire appliance and tanker truck attended the blaze.
They said there were no reports of injuries and crews were working to extinguish the vehicle fire after the vegetation fire had been controlled.
Motorists were advised to expect delays.
