Four children remain in hospital after South Taranaki crash

Four children remain in hospital after a crash in South Taranaki which injured 11 students and two adults.

The children and one teacher from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngā Ruahinerangi were on their way to a sports practice in New Plymouth yesterday morning when their van collided with a car on Hastings Road in Matapu.

Two people were flown to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition but a spokesperson for the families said the children suffered minor to moderate injuries and some were being monitored for concussion.

They were taken to various hospitals including Whanganui, Hāwera and Taranaki Base in New Plymouth.

The spokesperson said whānau were very shaken but were helping police with the investigation into what caused the crash.
