A body has been found in a burnt out vehicle in Woodridge - a suburb of northern Wellington.
The police were told about the fire on Ladbrooke Drive at about 11.40pm on Thursday.
A guard stayed at the scene and a nearby property overnight.
Detective inspector Haley Ryan said they believed the death was not suspicious.
However, police are looking for CCTV or dashcam footage that may help the investigation.
A scene examination is due to take place on Friday, and officers will be in the area.
