The main road to Akaroa on Banks Peninsula is reopening days after intense rainfall flooded State Highway 75.
The highway from Christchurch has been closed from Motukarara to Little River since Wednesday night.
Christchurch City Council controller Anne Columbus says the Transport Agency will reopen the road at 1.30pm.
However, there are reports motorists have been allowed through the closures since this morning.
Water restrictions in Akaroa
Meanwhile, Akaroa residents are being asked to reduce demand on wastewater system.
A wastewater main has blown on Beach Road in Akaroa and the council is warning it could take all day to repair.
Columbus says they have put in a temporary fix, but the last few days of heavy rain have affected the ground conditions.
Residents are being asked to reduce their use of the wastewater system by limiting water usage, delaying putting on the washing machine or dishwasher, and avoiding flushing the toilet.
