A man has been cut out of a car after a collision with a train near Rolleston in Canterbury.

Fire and Emergency (FENZ) said the crash happened at an uncontrolled level crossing at Kerrs Road, south-west of Rolleston.

FENZ assistant commander Kevin McCombe said the man, who was cut out of the car, was the sole occupant of the car.

McCombe said the coal train was heading towards the West Coast and the driver was unhurt.
