Nearly 30 firefighters were called to a large house fire in a small town south of Dargaville in the early hours of Monday morning.
Fire and Emergency said they were called to Aratapu about 2.30am.
Ten fire trucks and eight brigades fought the blaze at its peak.
The fire has since been extinguished, but eight trucks are still at the scene to monitor hotspots.
