Four people have been arrested after police chased two stolen cars across Auckland and Waikato following an aggravated robbery early on Thursday morning.

Police said a group of men armed with weapons, one reported to be a gun, went to a property in the Auckland suburb of Flat Bush around 5am.

They stole items and a vehicle.

The police helicopter located the stolen vehicle on State Highway 20 heading north and travelling with another vehicle, that was also stolen.

Detective Inspector Karen Bright said police signalled for the two vehicles to stop near Te Atatū, but they did not.

Police kept tracking the first vehicle and the Auckland Armed Offendors Squad was deployed, she said.

"AOS staff have brought the vehicle to a stop on Glenfield Road and swiftly took the sole occupant into custody without incident."

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

The second vehicle went south towards Waikato at high speed, and officers pursued it.

Bright said Waikato Armed Offendors Squad was deployed.

"The vehicle has collided with barriers on Tirau Road, and AOS moved in to carry out an armed traffic stop."

A 17-year-old and two 18-year-olds were arrested.

Bright said no one was hurt in the incident and police are continuing to investigate what unfolded at the Flat Bush address.
