Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash near Ralph Road around 11.50am, one person has received critical injuries.
All traffic is currently being diverted off the expressway and down Great South Road through Huntly.
The crash follows an earlier crash on State Highway 1 near Cheviot in North Canterbury, when a truck went into a bank off the highway.
