Sand truck gets stuck on Wellington beach

A truck helping replenish sand on Oriental Bay's beaches in Wellington got stuck in the sand it was working on.

The council began replenishing the sand on Oriental Bay's three beaches at the end of September.

The work is costing about $790,000, and is expected to take around three weeks.

Today a post on social media showed a truck in the water at Oriental Bay being towed back to land.

"The sand bridge they created was softer than expected as the tide came in, so the groomer vehicle needed a bit of a helping hand to get it back onto dry land," a council spokesperson said.
