Wellington Water says it is responding to surface flooding at St Albans Grove in Lower Hutt.
It said there was a connection between the flooding, the penstock valve at the stormwater outlet and the rising levels of the Hutt River.
Fire and Emergency was also responding in combination with Wellington Water, with pumps being transported to assist with the situation.
Wellington Water said a further update would be provided, including the number of properties impacted, once a team was on site.
