An Auckland teenager has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a police dog during an arrest.
The Counties Manukau Gang Disruption Unit searched a Manurewa property on Lincoln Road at about 6am on Tuesday as part of a warrant, supported by the armed offenders squad.
Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers said a 16-year-old was seen fleeing the property, armed with a gun, as officers approached.
He was tracked to a nearby property by a police dog, and bitten while he was arrested.
Vickers said the teen was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
"We can confirm a shotgun has been located discarded in the nearby area," he said.
"The incident is contained, and taking another firearm out of circulation is a great outcome for our community."
Meanwhile, the target of the search warrant, a 35-year-old man, was taken into custody at the Lincoln Road address.
Vickers said police would lay charges in due course.
