A petition seeking to save the Northland rail link to Auckland is being delivered to Parliament on Wednesday.
KiwiRail is reviewing the future of the line and has said it may be mothballed unless business improves.
The Save Our Rail group in Northland says any increase in road freight, especially logging trucks, would be disastrous for tourism and the region's roads.
It has more than 12,000 signatures on the petition, asking KiwiRail to keep the line open.
Convenor Vivienne Shepherd is presenting the petition to a Green Party MP on the steps of Parliament.
