An inquiry into the release of a Security Intelligence Service briefing prepared for former Labour leader Phil Goff in 2011 to blogger Cameron Slater should be finished by the end of the year.
The Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security, Cheryl Gwyn, is not prepared to comment on the inquiry while it is under way.
The SIS documents released to Mr Slater appear to contradict Mr Goff's claim that he had not been briefed on a matter of national security.
Mr Goff continues to maintain that he wasn't briefed.
