The Prime Minister, John Key, expects a briefing soon from the Chief of Defence Force on last week's multinational meeting in Washington.
Defence chief Tim Keating attended the meeting of 22 countries called to discuss the fight against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
Mr Key said he expected Lieutenant-General Keating would bring back information that will help the Government decide to what extent it wants to be involved.
"I think he has more information as a result of the meeting, so I think he's got a greater sense of what other countries might be doing or committing too.
"But in the end, that helps inform the overall decision of if we become involved."
