A German tourist who killed a Canterbury woman when he ran a stop sign has been disqualified from driving and ordered to pay $15,000 to the victim's family.
Daniel Mueller, 26, drove through the intersection of Goulds Road and Leeston Road on 23 February, crashing into another car and killing the driver, Stephanie Anne Ellis, 54.
In the Christchurch District Court this afternoon, Judge Neave ordered Mueller to pay $7500 each to Ms Ellis' daughter and her son.
Mueller was also disqualified from driving for nine months, and ordered to pay a further $450 in penalties.
