The man was walking south on the highway between Scandrett and Woodhouse streets when a red hatchback stopped in front of him and two men got out, a police spokesperson said.
They chased him onto a nearby property, where they assaulted and robbed him.
The attack happened at a busy time of the day for that part of the highway, Detective Sergeant Stu Harvey said.
Anyone who may have seen something occur should contact police.
