A disappointing second day of fleet racing meant the New Zealand Black Foils missed out on the final of the latest SailGP event in Germany.

New Zealand were second in the standings after the first day but could only manage ninth, fifth and fifth on the second day of fleet racing to finish fourth overall.

France won the event, while second placed Australia moved to the top of the overall standings with 61 points, the same as New Zealand.

"We aren't happy with that as weekends go," said Black Foils Co-CEO and Driver Peter Burling.

"It felt like we were very hot and cold, we'd do some things really well and then follow them with some big mistakes.

"It also felt like we were unlucky at other times, it felt like one of those days where there were lots of opportunities but we didn't execute.

"All in all coming away with a fourth was a bit of damage limitation and not a terrible result. It gives us plenty of motivation to keep pushing ahead of Saint-Tropez".

It was France's first win of the season.

Australia were second and Great Britain third.

Australia lead the overall championship table level on 61 points with New Zealand. Britain are third with 58 points.

The next round is in Saint-Tropez from September 12-13.
