Canterbury have retained the Ranfurly Shield with a thrilling 29-25 win over spirited Tasman in Christchurch.
Tasman led from the 59th minute and defended desperately in the final stages, with phase after phase taking the game into the 84th minute, but in the end, they could not withstand hooker George Bell's final charge at the line.
In a pulsating contest, the Mako took the game to their Crusaders allies, just a week and a day after the red-and-blacks took the shield off Southland.
