Kele: Kele Okereke, the frontman of ambitious London four-piece band Bloc Party, plays his one-off show this Saturday at Auckland’s Kings Arms. The show comes as part of a tour down under in support of his most recent solo record, the dancey Trick. Tickets are $50 and still available from Under The Radar.
Black City Lights: After a mutual decision to go their separate ways, synth-heavy electro-pop duo Black City Lights play their last ever show this Saturday at Wellington’s San Fran. They’ll be supported by Introverted Dance Floor, So Laid Back Country China, EDIE and bAY ROAD CLIQUE. Tickets are $10 on the door, there’ll be “free stuff” for anyone who arrives before 9.30pm, and below you can listen to the band’s cover of the Stone Roses’ ‘I Wanna Be Adored’.
Lines of Flight festival: Taking place as part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival, experimental music festival Lines of Flight begins tonight and runs through until Saturday. The lineup includes Jeff Henderson and Hermione Johnson, Alphabethead, Olympus, and way more. Scoop tickets and find out more event details here.
Cricket World Cup: It’s elimination time for the teams left in the Cricket World Cup and the next few days will see quarter-finals matches between India and Bangladesh, Australia and Pakistan, and, of course, New Zealand and West Indies. The unbeaten Black Caps play at the sold-out Wellington Stadium this Saturday and odds are on their side; they’ve won 15 of the 22 one dayers they’ve played at the venue and also beaten the unpredictable West Indies side there on three occasions.
A Movement tour: As part of Blink’s massive A Movement tour, which we mentioned last week, there’s a can’t-miss show at the Kings Arms this Saturday. Auckland three-piece band Caroles will be playing Mint Chicks covers while Riki Gooch is reworking Shihad songs, and there’ll also be sets from Shocking Pinks, Xanadu and Mongo Skato. Doors open at 8.30 with the first act on at 9.15. Entry is $15.
Liam Finn: Performing solo as part of his five-date 'No Mates' tour, Liam Finn plays the Leigh Sawmill Cafe this Saturday. The stripped-back set will see Finn play tracks all the way back from his Betchadupa days as well as newer tracks from his most recent release The Nihilist. Fela! The Concert: Celebrating the songs of Afrobeat-creator Fela Kuti, Fela! The Concert features a 10-piece band with nine singers and dancers including members from the original Tony award-winning musical. The show, which runs as part of Auckland Arts Festival, begins tonight and runs until Sunday at the Civic. Find tickets over at Ticketmaster.
