A tree has fallen onto State Highway 1 at Karapiro, causing the road to close.
Police said they were made aware of the blocked road just north of the township around 11:35am on Friday.
A police spokesperson said traffic was backed up from Cambridge.
A cordon was in place at the State Highway 1 intersection with State Highway 27.
Motorists are being asked to delay travel if possible, with the road expected to be closed for some time.
A multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 1, Goodwood Heights, earlier on Friday morning has also caused delays.
