The first in a three-part series that lifts the kilt on our Kiwi love affair with the bagpipes and pipe bands. For a small country, about as far away from Scotland as you can get, New Zealand has an enduring connection with its Scottish ancestry. Of the 17 grade-one or premiere pipe bands in the world, five come from New Zealand. In August 2023, bands from Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland travelled to Scotland to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships. From the rural back blocks of the Manawatu to downtown Buchannan Street in Glasgow, it's 12,000 Miles.
