Former NZ First MP and 2023 candidate Jenny Marcroft
“We have free speech in New Zealand, and we must uphold that. And just because we don't agree with what someone says, why do we label them? Why do we disregard them? Why do we shut them down? Why do we call them nutters? You know, we have become so quick to be reactionary. Rather than take the attitude of, okay, you've got a different opinion than mine, whether it's political opinion, or how we raise our kids, or whatever it might be, and allow ourselves to have differences without having to hate on each other.”

Kate Hannah, Director of the Disinformation Project
“The disinformation community tries to have a buck both ways because you refute the legality and democratic process of an election, but you also kind of tell people to vote because you want to see if it works. There's lots of conversations about how are we going to track our votes and go along and demand to see, you know, my vote is going through ... And then they can celebrate if they win. But they can also say it was stolen if they don't.”
