Sharon Brettkelly
Sharon Brettkelly was born in Whakatāne and started her journalism career at the age of 19 as the Whakatāne correspondent for the Rotorua Daily Post. She has since worked in TV, radio and newspapers in New Zealand, Australia, Vietnam, Hong Kong and London.
She joined RNZ as a reporter, and went on to produce for Afternoons and Checkpoint, before working as Auckland Bureau Chief. She is a founding presenter of award-winning podcast The Detail, produced for RNZ by Newsroom since 2020.
Sharon says she loves choosing the story, finding the talent to interview and the creativity of editing the podcast.
Outside of work, Sharon enjoys being part of a community choir, golf, gardening and adventure travel.
