Word Christchurch 2016: Nadia Hashimi
Nadia Hashimi's novels highlight the plight of Afghan women under the Taliban, creating vivid, involving characters who win readers' empathy and understanding. When the Moon is Low follows a refugee family across Europe; The Pearl That Broke its Shell looks at Afghan girls raised as boys; most recently A House Without Windows examines prison conditions for women in Afghanistan. Nadia Hashimi talks with Marianne Elliott, author, activist, and a former human rights officer for the United Nations in Afghanistan. This discussion was recorded at the WORD Christchurch Writers Festival in August.
