The New Zealand foreign affairs minister, Murray McCully, says renewable energy projects will be a focus on his trip to French Polynesia this week.
Mr McCully travelled to Papeete on Monday.
He says the visit is a chance to strengthen New Zealand's relationship with a Pacific neighbour and important trading partner.
The minister says there are strong cultural and historical ties between both countries as well as a regular flow of visitors.
He says he will visit renewable energy projects in the eco-tourism sector.
