Gianina Schwanecke
The newest member of the Country Life team, Gianina Schwanecke's love of rural living began in Wairarapa. Born in South-Africa, she and her family moved to eastern hills of Wairarapa more than 20 years ago where she was put in charge of a small herd of Boer goats.
After completing her Master of Journalism at Massey University, examining the New Zealand media's coverage of the growing afforestation of farmland and media reporting on climate change coverage generally, she started as a rural reporter for the Wairarapa Times-Age. She later moved to a working farm nestled along the coast of Hawke's Bay, where she covered all sorts of stories across Te Matau-a- Māui through to the East Cape of Tairāwhiti.
Her time working along the East Coast has only further enhanced her passion for rural communities and their stories. Having spent the past few years working in news, Gianina has decided to return to her rural roots. She currently resides in Wellington and is an avid reader, lover of local wines and an aspiring goat owner.
