2PM LIVE: Aldous Harding at Civic Theatre
Lyttleton bred goth folk artist Aldous Harding has been winning over critics and artists alike with her unique and haunting voice.
She began singing and songwriting alongside Nadia Reid as a teenager, and was famously spotted by Anika Moa while busking in Geraldine. Moa gave Hannah the support slot for her gig that night, and tried to give her a helping hand in the music industry, even offering to manage her.
Since that fateful day, she’s gone on to wow audiences around the world, released three albums, and won the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll award in 2019 for her song ‘The Barrel’.
This special live performance was recorded live at Civic Theatre in 2017- we’re stoked to play it for you today.
Songs performed:
Horizon / Blend / What If Birds Aren't Singing They're Screamin

4:00 -The Mixtape: Witi Ihimaera "people call me a storyteller, but I'm actually a story singer"
Witi Ihimaera is one of the best known names in New Zealand literature. Most Kiwis will have read at least one book penned by the Gisborne-born novelist, short story writer and playwright - works such as The Whale Rider, The Matriarch and Pounamu Pounamu.
Ihimaera was the first Māori writer to publish both a book of short stories and a novel. He is of Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki descent and was made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2004 for services to literature.
In 2009 he received the Te Tohu Tiketiki a Te Waka Toi award, the highest honour given by Maoridom in the arts. He received an Arts Foundation Laureate the same year. His 2016 memoir Māori Boy won the Ockham NZ Book Award for Non-Fiction and in 2017 he was honoured with the 2017 Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement.
He joins Charlotte Ryan for an open chat about his writing, his life, and of course he chooses some of his favourite songs (spoiler alert he's also very funny!)
