Innovative indie outfit So So Modern are reforming after a 12-year hiatus. 

The band released 7" singles and an album through UK label Transgressive, and were one of the most internationally active New Zealand bands of their era. 

Set to play the Newtown Festival on March 8th, the band have also been hard at work on a new album, which they’ve been recording in Wellington. 

Vocalist, guitarist and synth-player Grayson Gilmour speaks to Tony Stamp and premieres So So Modern's new single, ‘Eat You Alive’.

14:20 Mild Orange on returning home and touring Thailand, Mongolia and Taiwan

Ōtepoti Dunedin band Mild Orange are bringing their fourth album The//Glow to Auckland and Wellington this week, hot off the heels of a Europe/UK tour. 

After playing in New Zealand, the four-piece are bound for Australia, Thailand, Taiwan and Mongolia. 

The four-piece formed at university and found global success online, accumulating tens of millions of streams and ultimately relocating to London.

In addition to her life as a musician, Jan Hellriegel is the only woman to own a music publishing business in Australasia. With Songbroker Music Publishing, she helps people secure rights to their music and is an 'expert at dealing with musical rights owners, negotiating fair fees, and securing license agreements for all uses'.

Born and raised in Waitakere, Hellriegel moved to Dunedin to attend the University of Otago. In 1985, while studying, she formed her first band, Cassandra's Ears.

Hellreigel joins Tony to discuss her experience establishing the business and the role of publishing in the music industry.

16:10 The Mixtape: Jim Wilson

This Mixtape from 2018 features Jim Wilson, a local music industry figure who died earlier this week. He managed the Exponents, and founded Phantom Billstickers.

He established a vibrant musical hub in Christchurch in the 70’s & 80’s, booking bands into music venues and promoting their gigs with posters and flyers.

In addition, he supported many local poets and writers with his Phantom Billstickers Café Reader, and sponsored New Zealand poetry events internationally.
