3.15 Michelle Saville - Director of ‘Millie Lies Low’ feat Ana Scotney
Film Director Michelle Saville talks to Charlotte about her new film Millie Lies Low, working with Ana Scotney, and picks her favourite song.
The film follows Millie (Ana Scotney), a student on her way from Wellington to New York for a prestigious architecture internship. A moment of panic causes her to miss her flight, and instead of letting the people around her know she hasn’t left, she instead lies low in Pōneke while scrounging up the funds for another ticket. However her options (and funds) quickly start to run out, and everything starts to crumble.
The idea for the film comes from Michelle’s own experience - she missed her flight by a day when heading to a film festival in France for her short film, Ellen is Leaving. The NZ Film Commission had paid, and she couldn’t afford the $3000 for another flight, so she thought she was going to have to hide out in Wellington for three weeks (until an airport staffer saved the day).
4:00 The Mixtape: Harry Sinclair
Harry is predominantly known for his work with Don McGlashan releasing music, performing and making short films as The Front Lawn.
He also writes and directs film and television, and received high praise for Topless Women talk about their lives and The Price of Milk. Harry has since relocated to LA and has worked on TV series such as 90210.
Now he is back working with Don McGlashan, writing and directing the very successful children’s animation series Kiri and Lou. Season 3 has just been released – along with new books and a Kiwi and Lou soundtrack.
Harry joins Charlotte to talk about life, and chooses his favourite songs on this episode of The Mixtape.
